Learning the Trade
Ken Mellick’s early construction work begins; high-school graduation in 1966 leads straight to Army enlistment.

Service & Discipline
Marriage to Joan, followed by service in Vietnam. Discharged in 1969 with a permanent emphasis on accountability and standards.

Construction Expertise
Metal-smelter refinery work and a building-inspector role for the City of Auburn lead to founding Ken Mellick Construction in 1972.
- 1970s
A Family Business
Brothers Ron and Glen come in; all six Mellick children eventually work in the business. Son Jared starts installing roofs in the early 1980s.

Climate Expansion
The family relocates to Florida — and is suddenly exposed to a whole new set of roofing failures from heat, humidity, and hurricanes.

Universal Roofing Group
Ken and Jared found Universal Roofing Group — the company that becomes the operational foundation of the Metlok Lifetime Roofing system.
